Dedocrest

A team sport that is like parkour meets frisbee golf meets the elimination games in Tron.

Dedocrest has a secret past. The sport was originally designed as a tactical exercise to train wildcatter miners to defend or attack a mining claim on an asteroid. In its earliest incarnation, it was played in space, two teams of 5 miners would face off against each other in a capture the flag type battle. The game would start with team one on the defensive. The defensive team would position themselves on a small floating asteroid, 10 meters across, with their flag planted. The offensive team would begin on a short-range dinghy from 50 meters out and their goal was to overtake the flag without being ‘tagged’ out.

Over the decades the sport evolved into an indoor arena competition, and Singko Academy did everything in its power, very successfully, to erase the less than savory origins. And rebrand it to a competitive team sport - Dedocrest. The true origins of the sport now only live in the deepest Singko Corp and Singko Academy archives.

Now 700 years later, Dedocrest is an intergalactic youth and professional sport watched by millions and played in almost every school, university town, and city in various forms throughout the universe.

In its current form, Dedocrest still retains much of its original design. Two teams of 5 players alternate between offensive and defensive positions. The field consists of 6 floating platforms varying from 2 meters to 6 meters across floating at various heights around the arena. These positions change from game to game and are decided in advance by the game officials. The defensive flag (need a new term) is mobile and one designated team member - the Flag Keeper - can carry and reposition the flag on the platforms, but a flag can’t be off a platform for more than 30 seconds or the team loses the round. If the flag keeper is tagged out, the other team has a massive advantage in that round to win the flag. Therefore, defending the flag keeper is an important defensive tactic.

Each team member has a gyro-disc which acts as both defensive and offensive tool for ‘tagging’ out opposing team members. The discs can be thrown, rolled, or simply placed on the ground and the gyro discs are designed to return to their paired owner.

Teams get points for shifting their flag position between platforms (need a new name), but this also makes for more opportunities for the offensive team to win the flag. ( look at how tennis scores progress and use it as a model. The teams can shift in and out of being in the lead, and can regain position by shifting their flag between platforms and risk it being stolen).

If a team member is ‘tagged out’ they move to a sideline position for the round - until the flag is pulled by the offensive or all offensive players are tagged out and defense wins the round. Both offensive and defensive players can be tagged out in any round. Causing the teams to often shrink down to one-on-one face-offs.

Dedocrest gameplay is a balletic dance of discs flying, players jumping from platform to platform while throwing and blocking their flying gyro-discs as they constantly close in on the opposing team’s flag.
