A cycle represents the wake and sleep cycle of an average species, (but it is the Tokkans that defined it).
Date: Because Tokka is the dominant political and financial force in the ITN and the Galaxy, the ITN and intergalactic commerce use its calendar as a point of reference. The length of a Cycle is a reference to the length of a day when Tokka still turned. The Super Cycle is a reference to the length of a year on Tokka. And the system of date as recognized by the ITN member worlds begin at the date that Tokka stopped turning, a catastrophic event for that world, which took hundreds of supercycles to recover from.
